Recreation Assistive Services and
Technologies Alliance (RASTA)
Through a collaborative partnership with Florida Department of Health Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Program and FAAST, RASTA provides an education and resource referral program to assist people with brain and spinal cord injuries in pursuing current recreation and leisure providers and available associated assistive services and technologies. The program includes an accessible inclusive recreation database, outreach, training and education; and the FDOA annual event – SportsAbility that showcases recreation opportunities for people with all abilities. People with brain and spinal cord injuries have a variety of programs available through the RASTA program.

People with Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries
Recreation Referral Network - The program is designed to research information on recreation and leisure products, events, destinations, services and programs. The database is searchable by location (Florida county and/or outside the state), by type of activity (anything relating to tennis) and/or by the type of resource (product, event, destination, or service/program). At this time, a person interested in recreation in his/her community can contact their local FAAST office or FDOA to receive information.
Outreach - As part of the partnership, FDOA develops and implements outreach and training on recreation assistive services and technologies designed to increase wellness and physical activity for people with brain and spinal cord injuries. Programs include providing information on recreation assistive services and technologies to the BSCIP staff. The training covers the importance of therapeutic recreation for people with brain and spinal cord injuries.
Education - FDOA educates on the many benefits of recreation and details on some of the opportunities available. Demonstrations of recreation assistive technology equipment and hands on interactive activities are included in the training.
SportsAbility - Another key element in educating the public about recreational opportunities for people with brain and spinal cord injuries is FDOA’s annual SportsAbility event. More information
